The next General Municipal Election in the City of Rolling Hills Estates will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 to elect two Members of the City Council. The City previously held its elections in November of even years but due to the requirements of Senate Bill No. 415 (SB 415), the California Voter Participation Rights Act, there will be no City election in Rolling Hills Estates on November 7, 2017 (see notice below).

Change in Election Date as Mandated by SB 415

Senate Bill No. 415 (SB 415), the California Voter Participation Rights Act (California Elections Code Sections 14050-14057), was approved by Governor Brown in 2015. SB 415 requires all local governments, including Rolling Hills Estates to consolidate its General Municipal Election with a statewide election date if holding the General Municipal Election on another date has previously resulted in a significant decrease in voter turnout. In order to comply with the requirements of SB 415, the Rolling Hills Estates City Council adopted Ordinance No. 712 to bring Rolling Hills Estates in compliance by June 2018.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, pursuant to California Elections Code §1301 and City of Rolling Hills Estates’ Ordinance No. 712, that the date for the General Municipal Election in the City of Rolling Hills Estates has been changed from the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of odd-numbered years to the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June of even numbered years beginning in June 2018; and will be consolidated with the Statewide Direct Primary Election.  The City’s next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.

As a result of this change, the terms of the Councilmembers elected in November 2013 and November 2015 will be extended by approximately seven months, expiring in June 2018 and June 2020 respectively, and those terms will expire when the election results are certified and declared by the County of Los Angeles and the Rolling Hills Estates City Council for those elections.
